Aksarben Mortgage welcomes 2 UNL alumni to talented team

Aksarben Mortgage continues to expand its talented team with the additions of Steve Coulter and Sanat Bhandari.

“We are excited to have Sanat and Steve join our Aksarben Mortgage team,” Aksarben Mortgage Co-Owner and Advisor Nick Zwiebel said.

“Steve has over 25 years of experience, and with that experience, he will be able to guide and help find solutions that are right for families starting out or purchasing their retirement home. And Sanat has a background in multi-family, investment and commercial operations, so that is equally exciting.”

An Indianapolis native, Coulter grew up in Auburn, Nebraska, before heading off to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he ran cross country and track on his way to earning a degree in economics.

“I started in the mortgage industry because I was good at relating with different types of people, was good with numbers and I feel a great satisfaction in helping people figure out the goals they want to achieve,” Coulter said.

He’s now a 27-year veteran of the mortgage industry as a loan officer, which gives him a unique perspective as senior loan officer at Aksarben.

“I pretty much have seen all of the highs and the lows that the market can throw at industry. I have worked with A credit and subprime credit,” he said. “I have dealt with purchases, refinances, debt consolidation refinances, non QM loans, etc. I have dealt with any type of residential loan you can think of.”

Bhandari brings his youthful charm but plenty of relevant experience to his role as junior mortgage advisor. A native of Amritsar, India, Bhandari graduated from UNL with a BS in Computer Science and Math and a MS in Computer Science. His interest in the real estate world blossomed while handling his studies in Lincoln

“I bought a rental property during college that I rented out to my friends. That is what got the ball rolling and resulted in me adding more properties to my portfolio and being heavily invested on the buy-side of real estate,” he said. “In order to provide more value to my clients, I decided to specialize in the capital side of the business, and that's how I joined the mortgage industry.”

Bhandari also did some work as a financial analyst for a multifamily developer.

“Getting into the construction, development and finance side of the business pushed me to buy more properties, work as a mortgage broker to learn more about real estate finance and build relationships,” he said.

Bhandari and Coulter both said Aksarben Mortgage was a good fit for their career endeavors.

“I’m excited about joining Aksarben so that I can learn the ins and outs of the mortgage industry from some of the best in business, build relationships with clients to help them with their purchase, and add value,” Bhandari said.

Coulter echoed that sentiment.

“I am excited to join Aksarben Mortgage because I believe that the company takes care of their customers,” Coulter said. “And they also provide the tools to make the borrowing experience, which can be stressful for the customer, as simple and easy as possible.”
